Qualifications
I have been teaching piano playing for many years and I am a member of EPTA UK (European Piano Teachers Association). I have an ALCM(TD) diploma, 'A' level music and Grade 8 Theory. During the 1990's I wrote music for two stage productions, one of which was performed at Northgate Arts Centre and then the Spa Pavillion, Felixstowe. This music included scoring for a small orchestra and song lyrics.
Piano Lessons
Lessons may include composition, music theory, harmony tuition, improvisation and even some singing practice (student willing of course!). I tailor my teaching method to suit the student. I will listen to what the student has to say. I will help the student discover and develop his own learning skills. Lessons, particularly for the younger starter may occasionaly include musical games on the computer. And above all I try to make music lessons fun!
Exams
Some students wish to learn for pleasure only. However, for those who wish to take exams I use mainly ABRSM for piano although occasionally I have used Trinity and Rockschool.
Suffolk Festival for the Performing Arts
Each year one or two of my piano students may choose to enter the Suffolk Festival for the Performing Arts. This is held mainly at Woodbridge School and is open to the public, family and friends of the participants. The festival gives pupils the chance to have their performances assessed and rewarded by highly professional adjudicators.
Concert
Every year I encourage my students to take part in a celebration of their progress. Those who take part are given the opportunity to play with other musicians, whether as duets, trios, rock band or part of a choir. Of course, participation is not compulsory. You can just come along and enjoy the show!
